Being the Best Version of Yourself!

Hello, all! Back again, with more nonsense for ya! LOLOL You know I am kidding.

Actually, I want to discuss how we all, collectively, each and every one of us can be the absolute best version of ourselves! How do we do that? What does that look like? How can we achieve that?

Before I go any further, I don’t want to turn this into a post you’ve already seen and read and heard before. Yada yada yada. The best you BS. I know. We have all seen those posts and read them, etc. So, even if some of the ideas I propose are repetitive, I am adding a different take on things.

Let’s start with taking a look at oursevles, our lives, and where we are.

What does being the best version of yourself look like? I think that definitely depends on the person. However, there are some key, significant similarities to what that would look like for everybody.

For instance, believing in YOURSELF is so instrumental in being your best self. Let’s start with taking out the negative voices from the past that would have you NOT believe in yourself or have you LISTEN to them and how you CAN’T do something or SHOULDN’T do something, etc., etc., etc. In other words, if you do have a dream of doing something rather important in your life, then go with that instead of what naysayers may say. Or mumble. LOL

I wish I had listened to my own inner voice of believing in myself rather than listen to other people tell me ‘oh that isn’t going to work.’ Or ‘that will never happen.’ ‘Why do you want to do that for?’

It was absolute madness! So, I stopped listening to their nonsense and started listening to my own madness! Ha! 😂

And another rather key similarity of being the best version of you, that we all can share, is your willingness to show up and be present. How many times have we all heard this? But what does it really mean? I interpret it to mean that no matter how low or bad you may be feeling, or feeling the lethargy as thick as Tammy Faye Baker’s mascara, or just not wanting to do ANYTHING, you show up and do it anyway ESPECIALLY if it is a reality YOU are trying to create. I oughta know about this one, because I get tired after having worked all day, and now I am supposed to create and/or be artistic? No, I feel like going to sleep! Or eating! LOL But I pull myself together and do it anyway.

Now, this is the part where I guess I am supposed to tell you that being the best version of yourself also includes EXERCISE! Well, I am actually not going to tell you that. But what I will tell you is strive to have a working body, a body that can certainly serve well into old age. And I will leave that up to you. What does that part look like for you? For me, that does include a bit of an exercise routine where I dance at least 5 days out of a week, for 20 minutes.

I also strive to eat lighter. In other words, I don’t eat full plates anymore, but smaller ones. And God knows, I am attempting to eat only when HUNGRY, which some would say does more harm than good. So, I also incorporate a bit of eating every four hours, with snacks in between.

Another component of being your best version is learning to relax, which I think is something WE all can learn to do better. And also learning to not allow every single voice, or problem, person, or situation upset you. This is certainly a tough one I am having to learn. And it IS tough!

I always say, too, to look your absolute best when you go out. You don’t have to dress to the nines, and who cares if you are just going to the grocery store. But when socializing, look radiant. Wear clothes that make you feel strong or powerful and confident. However you choose to define it. Honey, for me it is shorts in the spring and summertime! 🤣😂

Oh and speaking of showing up, show up with CONFIDENCE and STRENGTH and POWER! Let’s try not to bring in a Debby Downer attitude. HOWEVER, if you are not feeling your best, then you are not feeling your best. There is no need to run and hide from your feelings. But I would suggest staring those uncomfortable feelings in the face and declaring that you are NOT going to allow them to take away from your strength.

And just simply staying on top of things, like – I am going to say it – BILLS and the upkeep of not only your own body and mind, but your house and/or living space, as well. Stay on top of responsibilities. And take a rest if you need to.

And I also want to mention being the best version of yourself may look like seeking professional help and/or therapy. There is nothing at all wrong with that! There are so many people in therapy, and I need to be in therapy again myself (and I am looking for another therapist).

Being the best version of yourself also means not allowing life circumstances to bring you down!!

Now MY Approach to Being the Best Version of MYSELF

I am going to start with something as simple as waking up.

I know that we often take something as simple as waking up for granted.

But I think to myself, ‘what if I woke up and already had the life I want?’ (And no, I won’t take us through any sort of visualization exercise. 🤣😂)

So, sometimes I wake up and imagine what I wish to see in the morning:

  1. I want to see my loving, handsome hubbie next to me. So, Pedro Pascal watch out! 🤣😂😂😂
  2. I want to see one, if not, two dogs walking around ready to be walked and fed.
  3. I want to see a four-poster bed. (at this point, my dream bed!)
  4. I want to see luxurious curtains.
  5. I want to see a bedroom that is HUGE! To the point there are couches in that sucker.

So, this is just a start. And okay, okay – maybe there is a bit of visualization involved. 😂

Now that I am awake, I ask myself ‘what does the best version of you look like?’

All of the above – PLUS:

  1. I weigh 185 pounds. Right now, I have ballooned back up to nearly 220!!! I am PISSED! 🤬(okay, as of this writing, I am back down to 214 – but still!!!)
  2. I work from home either in the capacity of a job OR my BEST VERSION – I work for myself!!
  3. I am a screenwriter.
  4. I do have a LOT of money.

Okay, I shall stop there and go, all righty, some of what I mentioned above is what ALL of us want to some extent.

So, let’s go deeper and into feelings.

  1. I yearn to wake up refreshed and happy.
  2. I desire to, as much as possible, feel good and happy.
  3. I wish to be energized and focused.
  4. I expect to have fun in my daily routine and not take things so seriously!

And speaking of feelings, I have decided that the following types of feelings and/or emotions that I experience are no longer acceptable:

  1. Misery.
  2. Self doubt.
  3. Defeat.
  4. Feeling like nothing is ever working out for me.
  5. Depression.
  6. Anger.
  7. Not allowing anxiety to win.
  8. And if you are like me, not allowing intrusive thoughts to win!
  9. Feelings of worthlessness.
  10. Feeling like I don’t belong. (Actually, I think it is okay to be the weirdo in the group!!)

And what the best version of me looks like henceforth:

  1. Meditation.
  2. Exercise.
  3. Being alone with my thoughts and feelings.
  4. Keeping a gratitude journal.
  5. Keeping a mental wellness journal.
  6. Taking time out for myself.
  7. Every now and then, treating myself and eating the food I want!
  8. Waking up earlier than intended and getting something off my to-do list, at least one thing.
  9. Having clearset goals!

Now, the things the experts and gurus WON’T tell you:

  1. Allow yourself to feel what ever you feel, anger, etc.
  2. Stop treating yourself as an afterthought.
  3. Stop acting as though you can’t have the things you desire.
  4. Stop acting as if you don’t have power and control in your own life!
  5. Be willing to knock it all down if you are NOT happy!! (I am currently going though this with my job and my living situation.)

In summation, whatever you want to do and/or accomplish and execute – GO FOR IT!!

Thank you all so much for reading. The next topic will be a bit more controversial as I discuss black and white men together – as in gay relationships/dating. You. Do. Not. Want. To. Miss. That one!! Especially if you are one of the above! 🤣😂

Until then, please be safe and mentally well!
